Foster Youth Initiative Coordinator (Temporary)

The Ford Theatres is creating a new initiative to serve the foster youth community and provide pathways to significantly increase their engagement and participation. This initiative will involve partnering with several community agencies to reach the extensive network of foster youth families and service providers in the region. To support the implementation of this foster youth‐focused initiative, the Ford Theatre Foundation seeks a self‐motivated, culturally‐minded and detail‐oriented individual with knowledge of the performing arts, event coordination, and arts administration to join the Ford Theatres team. The Foster Youth Initiative (FYI) Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting a series of events produced through community partnerships and foster service providers. The FYI Coordinator will report to the Ford Theatres Program Manager and is a six‐month temporary grant‐funded position.

Responsibilities Include

  • Working with Hollywood Shorts Film Festival, support the design and production of new foster youth‐focused programming, including a one-week filmmaking summer camp for high school-age youth, and a one-day filmmaking workshop for young children and their families.
  •  Working with Ford Theatres marketing staff to design marketing and application materials for the camp and workshop and to disseminate marketing materials and other information to foster youth communities and partnering service organizations.
  • Coordinating transportation and ticketing to bring foster youth, their families and community members to Ford Theatres events.
  • Coordinating three off-site participatory arts programs (JAM Sessions) designed specifically for foster youth participants, including hiring artists, supporting event setup, and interfacing with audiences, participants, and community members in off-site locations.
  • Maintaining and communicating event information with other staff to include in the Ford’s file server, master calendar, and venue management system.
  • Responding to general inquiries from the public about foster focused programs via phone and email.
  • Providing logistical support and programming assistance as needed and other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Working Hours

This is a temporary, grant‐funded position for a six month period, approximately May 2019 – October 2019.

Flexible, 30 to 40 hours per week. Due to the nature of the work, some evening and weekend hours will be required to attend performances, workshops and individual or community meetings.

Project Location

Primary work site will be Ford Theatres, located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd East, Hollywood, CA 90068. Some work will take place at other community sites located in Los Angeles County.



  • Ability to present both oral and written information in a poised, culturally sensitive and professional manner.
  • Familiarity with the foster youth community and/or social work.
  • Experience in arts management and/or event planning preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and engage with audiences and program participants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including youth and family audiences and emerging artists and producers.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently and interact effectively with a wide variety of people on and off site.
  • Ability to develop and maintain administrative systems and manage projects.
  • Ability to receive any certifications necessary to work with foster youth including, but not limited to, First Aid/CPR. Ford Theatres will sponsor and coordinate required trainings.
  • Be organized and proactive, work efficiently, and meet multiple and competing deadlines under pressure in a fast‐paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Be self‐possessed, practice discretion with sensitive information, and demonstrate grace under pressure.
  • Be dependable, responsive, prepared and flexible, and possess enthusiasm and dedication for the arts.


  • Two or more years of experience in a nonprofit or related field.
  • Familiarity with various arts disciplines and cultural practices, and comfort working in diverse communities and cultures, including those traditionally underrepresented in the arts.
  • Proficiency working with Windows‐based computers and MS Windows Suite of software (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and ability and willingness to learn new software systems.
  • Have CA State‐issued driver’s license or reliable transportation to attend off‐site programming as well as community outreach events.
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish is highly valued.


$25 per hour. Non-exempt position.
