What's Coming Up at the Ford

September already? Feels like we just got started and before you know it, the summer’s almost over. Not to worry, though! You’ve still got a few more weeks to experience LA’s freshest artists at our newly renovated digs before our celebratory 2017 season comes to a close, sniff, sniff.
Not sure what to see? No prob. We’ve compiled a handy list of some of our faves…

Viver Brasil dancer

If Afro Brazilian dance and music are your jam, then you’ll want to celebrate Viver Brasil’s 20th this Friday, September 22. With Agô Ayó – Spirits Rising, LA’s preeminent Brazilian dance company will perform world premiere pieces - joyful dances rooted in the sacred and contemporary traditions of Brazil - with live music by Kahlil Cummings, Simon Carroll and Bobby Easton.

DJ Logic

October 1, Angel City Jazz Festival does a double whammy celebration: their 10th anniversary and the centennial birthday of legendary jazz artist Thelonious Monk. The night kicks off with “Thelonious Monk's Afro-Cuban Dream,” with Dee Dee Bridgewater on vocals, backed by jazz musicians with serious street cred. This feverish dream concludes with DJ Logic, Mark de Clive-Lowe and more reimagining Monk, DJ style.

The Hubble Cantata
The Hubble Cantata operatic VR voyage takes off on October 11.

Opera more your speed? Explore the stars under the stars October 11 with the West Coast premiere of The Hubble Cantata, presented in association with LA Opera. This unprecedented experience pushes the boundaries of art and science. With stunning images from the Hubble Space Telescope, the cantata culminates in an immersive virtual reality voyage through the Universe. Your guides on this journey are opera stars Nathan Gunn and Jessica Rivera, with help from the LA Opera Orchestra, LA Opera Chorus and LA Children’s Chorus.

Bang on a Can All-Stars: Road Trip
Bang on a Can All-Stars: Road Trip performs October 14.

Our season comes to a close with a bang. Literally. As in the Bang on a Can All-Stars. David Lang, Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon, best known for their collaborations with experimental music pioneers like Phillip Glass, John Cage and Brian Eno, bring their highly eclectic and experimental yet viscerally exciting music to the Ford on October 14 to take us on a musical Road Trip across America.

You could say we saved the best for last. Except that our entire season has been chock full of performances by artists who grab you by the lapels and don’t let go. So, grab your friends and family, your favorite bites and sips, and do it up for one last summer hurrah at LA’s Freshest venue.

p.s. Yes. You can do it all. Buy tix to three or more shows and save 20%.
