Fall is in the air. If you’re from the Midwest, like some of us over here, you might connect fall with cooling temperatures and falling leaves. Not so much at the Ford these days -- things are hotter than ever. Stepping on our stage over the next two weeks will be everyone from Bobcat Goldthwait and Gilby Clarke on Friday to Very Be Careful and Charanga Cubana on Saturday to Chloe x Halle, Maya Jupiter and Versa-Style Dance Company next weekend. How can all this good stuff happen in such a short time? It’s almost unfair.

This weekend’s choice offerings: an amazing roster of rock and comedy heavy hitters at Rock Out! for Jail Guitar Doors followed by music, dance and kinship at AfroLatino on Saturday.

Very Be Careful

Next weekend, you can treat yourself to an unforgettable evening of some of the most thought-provoking women musicians and artists working today. The Artista + Activista = ARTIVISTA! show on September 16 has a line-up that includes, no joke, La Marisoul (of La Santa Cecilia), iconic punk rocker Alice Bag, Martha Gonzalez (of Quetzal), Medusa, Maya Jupiter, Ofelia Esparza, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Marisa Ronstadt and more.

On Saturday, September 17, Versa-Style Dance Company will break out their best hip-hop moves for Box of Hope, their latest piece performed to the sounds of Motown. Not convinced? The video below just might change your mind.

Oh, heck, might as well give in and treat yourself to the whole weekend. You won’t be able to resist when you hear what Mama Earth has in store for you. Chloe x Halle, the talented teenage duo who are opening for Beyoncé’s European Formation tour, will headline an event that includes such LA faves as Mark de Clive-Lowe, Jungle Fire, Nonosina and many more in a celebration of island culture.
