“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!’” – Robin Williams
Don’t you love it when the weather changes? The days get longer, the sleeves get shorter and as we shake off the last vestiges of winter, wanderlust takes over. If you’re like us, you can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. Of course the best place to experience the changing of the season (as well as some pretty spectacular music, dance and theatre) is under the stars at the Ford. Fortunately, the wait is almost over and we’ll be announcing our 2017 Summer Season before you know it. Until then, we’ve pulled together some outdoor adventures to hold you over until the summer begins…
One day in the not-so-distant future, you’ll be able to hike the trails behind the Ford all the way up the iconic white cross. In the meantime, take a trek through the Hollywood Hills to the ultimate Los Angeles landmark - the Hollywood Sign. Or find a hiking trail near you at trails.lacounty.gov. You’ll be surprised by the beauty in your own backyard!
Hiking not your thing? Pack a blanket, gather a few friends and head to the Autry or LA State Historic Park for Eat See Hear, an outdoor movie night complete with food trucks and live music.
Speaking of LA State Historic Park, this 13 acre oasis which stretches from Chinatown to the Los Angeles River recently reopened after an extensive renovation and is the perfect place to take the family for a day in the sun.
And if you're looking for things to do that are equally as nature-filled, but a bit further outside of Hollywood, Descanso Gardens and The Arboretum are beautiful during this time of year. Enjoy the roses, azaleas, camellias, irises and wildflowers in bloom this May at Descanso and frolic with the wild peacocks that roam the botanical gardens at The Arboretum.
But above all, heed the late great Robin Williams’ words of wisdom. Find a way to enjoy all that springtime has to offer. Especially now, find some time to focus on the beauty in the world. It’s still out there for the taking. And remember, it’s not a party without music. So, let’s get this party started with legendary DJ Biz Markie’s ode to spring.
