Happy Shining People

You know that feeling you get when you accomplish something huge? That’s kind of how we feel right now. After being closed for nearly two years for some pretty serious renovations to the Ford’s historic stage and artist areas, we opened our doors and hoped that you still cared. You did. Thank you.

Chester Whitmore: Lord of the Swing

All summer long, we welcomed you in to explore LA’s freshest artists. And, fresh they were. The summer held momentous anniversaries; two operas; appearances by the Lord of the Swing and the Concert King of the Philippines; a hip-hop dance concert; bluegrass and jazz, mariachi and folklorico; flamenco forever and ever; spoken word; good old fashioned rock ‘n roll; an orchestral ode to video game music; several celebrations of the intersections of cultures; a powerful night of women artivistas; an onstage union of Northern and Southern India; a dance theatre piece set in the aftermath of a natural disaster; and finally, an evening celebrating the influence and legacy of African music and culture.

But wait, there’s more. This year’s Ford Signature Series brought together such artists as Aloe Blacc and Fabiano do Nascimento, Lila Downs and Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company, and Urban Bush Women and CONTRA-TIEMPO.

And, more. Big World Fun returned with six amazing shows and live animals that took over our entryway gardens. While JAM Sessions invited you to jump up on our brand new stage and try your hand at everything from tropicál dance to the ukulele.

So much! Yes, we are tired. But, that good kind of satisfied-tired that comes from working very hard and seeing the fruits of your labor in the form of happy smiling people enjoying themselves.

Thank you for coming into our home. For getting stacked, taking a ride share or parking off-site. For being patient while we complete our big project. You rock in so many ways.

While we wind down for the summer, we  invite you to check out photos from the shows you saw, or the ones you missed, and to stay connected with us through email (we’ll only be emailing once a month until next spring) and on our social media channels. We’ll be posting periodically on progress at the venue and share updates on Ford artists as they perform around town. And, most of all, we hope to see you again in 2017!
